powerful moments in education

About me

My name is Jaclyn Karabinas and I taught in the classroom for 12 years- before venturing out into the world of everyone else’s classrooms!  My Master’s degree is through Lesley University in Curriculum and Instruction with a Specialization in Arts Integration.  With Undergraduate degrees in both Spanish and Elementary Education, and a minor in music, I take on the world with a multi-dimensional perspective.

I have had the honor of participating in the University of New Hampshire Literacy Institute, working with high school writers and have just begun plans to lead Learning through Teaching groups via UNH, thanks to my mentor and friend Tomasen Carey.  I facilitate professional development regarding arts and technology integration as well as social media for professional learning whenever possible. I have a crush on web-based collaborative tools and facilitate PD as a Google for Education Certified Trainer.

I have the true blessing of working with the amazing people and authors at Heinemann, sparking or facilitating conversations on Twitter, the blog and their online courses via the Digital Campus.

Last year, I began my own company, ExpandED.  This hiatus from the classroom allows me to work alongside educators throughout New England and across the country as an instructional coach and education consultant with the goal of providing incredible teaching and learning experiences for educators and children. I am, and always will be, a life-long learner and teacher.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As a young girl, I aspired to be a gymnast…an astronaut…a poet.  With the passage of time I felt my calling was to teach-because so many did it so well and made it so appealing.
After 6 years as a counselor and director at a preschool “Kindersoccer” and “KinderCamp”, I became a public school teacher.  I moved to New Hampshire with the dream of being Waldorf Trained. I gave myself 5 years or less in public education, but ended up realizing that I had a necessary relationship with the public schools.  I wanted to be a part of the change. I needed to be there.
Here lies my birth as a change agent; an educator who plows ahead with a passion and understanding for what makes students motivated and successful in 2015 and beyond.  From this passion, Soul Strikers was born- a blog about the the experiences and moments that create the powerful education that all deserve.
    I found your blog through your International Dot Day post, which was inspiring. From reading your bio, I can really tell that you are one of those rare teachers that I aspire to be. Can’t wait to start reading more from you!
